Sensory Blend Profile
A healthy dose of spice over concentrated earth, then clay and a mineral, soil-like note from the San Andrés wrapper.
A woody undertone with pepper returning through the nose, the soil and clay growing richer past the midpoint.
Dry clay and brick-like earth over a peppery kick, medium-plus, with none of the sweetness a maduro can bring.
The original Serie V Melanio debuted in 2012, named for Melanio Oliva, Gilberto Oliva's grandfather, who began growing tobacco in Cuba in 1886. The Maduro followed at the 2013 trade show as a limited Torpedo, swapping the original's Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper for Mexican San Andrés, and in April 2014 Oliva added the Robusto and Churchill as regular production. Oliva reports a 95 from Cigar Aficionado for the Churchill.
